The Ties that Bind (10)
Back the Blue
America is safest with law and order and proactive policing. Any politician not supporting law and order is one that should be discarded.
Heather Mac Donald: How the New Attack on Law and Order Makes Everyone Less Safe
In 2013, drug offenders were 16% of state prison population, violent felons 54%, and property offenders 19%, according to Heather Mac Donald in her book, The War on Cops. She further stated that federal prison drug traffickers were about 50% of the prison population as of 2014 and that federal prisons hold about 13% of America's total prison population. Furthermore, she stated there is less than 1% sentence for first-time drug offenders for simple drug possession in federal courts. Mac Donald stated that of the 562,000 black prisoners in state and federal prison in 2006, 4,495 were tried federally on drug charges. Methamphetamine (Meth) charges in 2006, of the 5391 charges, 54% were Whites, 39% Hispanics, and 2% were Blacks. Meth traffickers and crack carries identical penalties. Additionally, Mac Donald stated that as of 2013, Hispanics are 48% of drug offenders, Blacks 27%, and Whites 22 percent in federal courts. In state prisons, 3.6% of the population was for drug possession due to plea bargains and 12% convicted for trafficking. Drug possession did not drive the prison population from 1970 to present according to Mac Donald, between 1980 to 2009 drug offenses made up 21% of state prison growth.
There Was No Need for Biden's 1994 Crime Bill
However, crime was already on a downward trajectory due to Broken Window Policies and other measures implemented by many cities around the country that started in the 1980s. The Broken Window Policy was designed to address minor criminal infractions so as not to invite further criminal activities. In other words, fix the "window" quickly as not to invite more crimes.
The Anguished Cries of Slavery
The dead of the night is pierced with the sudden screams of deeply anguished cries. There are flames all around; the already dark night is further blackened by the billowing smokes. Folks are herded like cattle and the helpless are killed. The march begins to the whooping roar of the conquerors whose shackles gave new meaning to ties that bind. With each successful raid, they ignored the wailing of families whose bonds were being ripped apart as they journeyed to the waiting coastlines where European ships were waiting for their long and brutal journey.
My Home, Jamaica
In my country of birth, Jamaica, my family did not have a lot of material wealth to offer. Despite that, my family consisted of both parents who offered the protection of the harsh realities of our impoverished situation. No matter how tough things were away from home, when I got home there was safety and protection. There was however, law and order in my home. In my family my identity as to the importance of family was formed. Family is a powerful stabilizer, inherently intrinsic, and is above culture. At twelve years old I went to boarding school. This was a major adjustment, filled with anxiety and the unknown.
Introduction to the Racial Divide
My next journey was to the United States of America where I was off to college on an athletic scholarship. It was another moment of adjustment, as it was here I was introduced to racial undertones of Black and White culture. I was told trusting the white man is dangerous. I was told of the two political parties in America one was for Blacks and the other was for White people. For me, this did not sit well. I made it my duty to learn the history of the American culture. After all, it was both Black and White coaches who recruited me to the same university.
The Focus Should Be On the Family Unit
Now in my adopted home country, America, a country I love and now have a family, my goal is to understand this country and the racial dynamics, so my children will be able to live as Americans without the badge of racial inferiority. There are constant calls for equality--the interpretation of which is for making racial quotas. Cries of racial discrimination and demands for reparation. Will America survive these calls? Why are there not more calls to rebuild the family unit?
The Importance of the Family Bond Comes From God
It is written that in the beginning, God made them male and female. He later commanded that man should leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife. One of the strongest bonds of the African descendants in the West has been the family units.
The Family Unit Creates Ties That Bind
The strength of any society is the bonds of the family. It is why I wake up each morning sometimes traveling hundreds to thousands of miles to make sure I can put bread on my family's table. It is why I believe having the right to protect your family is an intrinsic right. The government cannot define the family as the family precedes it. It is because of this I believe the US Constitution has enshrined natural rights and is worth fighting for. When you destroy the family, you destroy the hopes of humanity. If the Black man could maintain his family in poverty and the system of oppressive slavery, he can surely do it today!
Joe Biden and His Race Baiting
At the height of the crack epidemic between 1984 to 1990 black families were being decimated especially in impoverished neighborhoods. Thugs, killing each other, abandonment of young children by parents strung out on crack. Fathers/mothers overdosing and prostituting themselves for a fix. As a result of this epidemic, Black Churches, community leaders, and politicians called for tougher penalties to rid the streets and protect families from this tragedy.
